Lindy's ingenious split coil design for the Jazz Bass bridge pickup involves two side by side RW/RP (reverse wound, reverse magnetic polarity) under the stock plastic pickup cover. You get much of the growling tone of a fine vintage Jazz Bass bridge pickup without the single coil hum and noise.
This design overcomes the compatibility problems often encountered when trying to mate a split coil Precision Bass pickups set with a single coil Jazz Bass bridge pickup. No matter how you combine the two essentially humbucking pickups with your volume controls the lowest possible noise floor is maintained with the highest possible output.
