Lindy Fralin came up with this wiring scheme which uses the bottom tone control to allow the player to blend a pickup in or out of the mix.
With the bottom control set to 10 it is out of the circuit ccompletely with no load to the circuit (think true bypass). In this position the 5 way switch functions in the mormal Strat way and
you have a volume and master tone control. In the explanation below poition #1 is the Bridge Pickup and #5 the Neck Pickup.
Switch Positions when Blend Control is on 10:
1. Bridge
2. Bridge and Middle
3. Middle
4. Middle and Neck
5. Neck
Using the Blend Control:
#1 & #2 When you turn the blend control from 10 down to 1 the Neck pickup is gradually introduced.
#4 & #5 When you turn the Blend control from 10 down to 1 the Bridge pickup is gradually introduced.
#3 Which is the Middle pickup the blend control has no effect.
